*** If you have a router. ***

In most cases a consumer router will work out of the box preconfigured to use DHCP.
If you have a standard router and have made no custom configurations,
resetting the router to factory default will enable you to use DHCP.

In the case of wireless routers or routers with advanced configurations, it is best
to log into the routers web console then change the Routers "WAN" configuration
to DHCP instead of factory resetting it to default.

Resetting a wireless router to factory default will often results in removing the custom
SSID and encryption settings leaving your wireless network open for anyone to use.
If you have made custom configurations such as port forwarding
or allowed mac address lists ect. this information would be lost if the router
was factory default reset.
Making the change to DHCP via the router's web console is recommended in these cases.

To factory reset your router locate the reset button,
(normally next to where the ac adapter plugs in).
you often need a paperclip or pin to press the reset button.
After pressing and holding the reset button for 10 seconds the light status
on the router should flash. now power cycle your router by unplugging the
ac adapter cord for 10 seconds then plug it back in.

To access the routers web console first determine the make and model of router
common router manufactures are as followed:

Linksys 1-800-546-5797
Netgear 1-888-638-4327
D-Link 1-877-453-5465
Belkin 1-800 223-5546 x2263

Each of these common router manufactures offer documentation on their
websites for the various models of routers they manufacture.
If you have problems accessing your routers web console it is recommended
you call your router manufacture's support line (number listed above)
and ask to be walked through configuring your router for DHCP via the web console.

Once you have made the switch to DHCP please send a confirmation
email to dhcp@douglasfast.net
